Why, oh why did we stop heeding the wisdom of our Founding Fathers? If only we had honorable statesmen like these to lead us today, rather than smarmy politicians! Here are just three snippets of the wisdom of our Founders:
On National Debt:
“I sincerely believe… that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale.” - Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor, 1816
On Liberty:
“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” - Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759
On the size of Federal Government:
“The number of individuals employed under the Constitution of the United States will be much smaller than the number employed under the particular states. There will consequently be less of personal influence on the side of the former than of the latter.” - James Madison, Federalist Paper #45
